Team Paul and the Coffee Crane

“One of the big dreams of my life. . .

has been to be able to carry

a coffee cup around the house.”

TeamPaul_1Team Paul worked closely with their client to accomplish a simple task. Paul said: “one of the big dreams of my life. . . has been to be able to carry a coffee cup around the house.” This task was difficult for Paul because he requires crutches to walk. After researching, testing, and experimenting with different designs and solutions, the MIT students that comprised Team Paul designed the Coffee Crane.

Built with both custom parts and on the market products, the Coffee Crane applies the ideas of physics to keep liquids in a mug from spilling while in motion. This product allows someone to carry a full cup of hot coffee while using crutches. It is easy to maintain—as it has no electrical parts, it is simple to attach and detach from the crutches, and can be easily used in Paul’s home. The Coffee Crane has made Paul’s dream a reality.
